About the challenge

Join OHack Summer 2025, a unique hackathon that kicks off our comprehensive Summer Volunteer Internship Program! A journey of building meaningful technology for nonprofits.

The Challenge: Create innovative tech solutions for real nonprofit partners with real problems.

Open to all roles: Software Engineers (SWE), Data Scientists (DS), Data Engineers (DE), Product Managers (PM), Technical Program Managers (TPM), Product Marketing Managers (PMM), and UX/UI Designers.

This is your chance to gain startup-like experience while making a lasting difference for organizations serving important causes.

Get started

Phase 1: Forming 

  1. Register & Form Teams (1-5 people recommended)
    • Mix technical and non-technical skills 
    • Solo participants welcome – we'll help with team formation
  2. Select Your Nonprofit Challenge
    • Review real challenges from our partner organizations
    • Choose projects aligned with your skills and passion
    • We'll match every team with a nonprofit
  3. Build Your MVP
    • Create a working prototype during the hackathon
    • Focus on demonstrating core value proposition

Phase 2: Storming and Norming

  • Commit 10-15 hours weekly to developing your solution
  • Work remotely after aligning your team schedules
  • Regular mentorship sessions with industry professionals - ask in #ask-a-mentor on Slack
  • Iterate based on feedback and user testing
  • Deploy production-ready solutions that nonprofits will actually use
  • Add your demos and projects to this DevPost to showcase your completed project
  • Make sure you're building your project according to our judging criteria

What to Submit

Teams must submit their projects to DevPost with complete descriptions, 4-minute demo videos, and GitHub repository link.

Demo videos longer than 4 minutes will not be accepted. Not 4 minutes and 5 seconds, 4 minutes.
